As Venezuela is a country rich in petroleum and minerals, in the Electrochemical Laboratory of the Universidad de Los Andes, projects are being developed in the area of electrosynthesis, with an emphasis on its application in the petrochemical industry and in the production of new materials, especially hydrocarbons, and the electrosynthesis of polymers with an industrial interest. Research is carried out on the preparation of electrocatalyzers which improve the efficiency of these reactions and, also, in relation to kinetics and thermodynamics, permit the explanation of their mechanisms. Electroanalytical techniques, conventional and sophisticated, are utilized in the application of analytic and clinical chemistry.
General lines of research include the following:
- Organic Electrochemisty
- Electroanalysis
- Spectroelectrochemistry. (UV, VISIBLE, IR, RAMAN)
- Electrocatalysis
- Electrochemistry of organometallics
- Electropolymerization
- Bioelectrochemistry
