The Agroalimentary Research Center (CIAAL) was created on May 17, 1995, after the institutional transformation of the Venezuelan Alimentary System Study Group (GeSAV) which had been functioning since 1990. The CIAAL began as a result of an agreement of cooperation between the POLAR Foundation and OGN regarding an extended trajectory to service the country.
The CIAAL, although comprised of professors and researchers from various Faculties of the Universidad de Los Andes (ULA), is administratively a part of the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences (FACES).
To CIAAL are ascribed nearly 10 researchers. Additionally, it publishes the biannual magazine Agroalimentaria, and contributes to other publications at a national and international level.
